IP Rated Electrical Enclosures

IP Rated Enclosures

IP54 to IP68 Electrical Enclosures Built to Declared Protection Standards

Protection Levels for Electrical Enclosures

The IP (Ingress Protection) rating of an electrical enclosure is one of the most important specifications you will read on a datasheet — and one of the most commonly misunderstood. Choosing the wrong IP rating can mean dust ingress that degrades insulation, water intrusion that shorts live circuits, or an over-specified enclosure that adds unnecessary cost. Getting it right from the start protects both the equipment inside and the people working around it.

Kay Switch Gears manufactures IP rated electrical enclosures across the full range of ratings  from IP54 general-purpose indoors to IP68 for temporary or continuous submersion. Every IP enclosure we produce is tested and constructed to the gasket, material, and closure standards that the declared rating requires.

How to select the right iP rating

Selecting the Right Protection Level, Choosing the correct IP rating depends on:

Installation location (indoor vs outdoor)

Exposure to dust, moisture, or washdown

Type of equipment inside the enclosure

Maintenance and accessibility requirements

Higher IP ratings are not always necessary the selection should match actual operating conditions.

IP Protection Levels

IP55 Enclosures

Suitable for industrial environments with limited dust and water exposure.

IP65 Enclosures

Designed for environments where higher dust and moisture protection is required.

IP66 Enclosures

Built for applications exposed to heavy dust and water conditions.

Custom IP Rated Enclosures

IP protection configurations based on installation and environmental requirements.

Applications & Use-Cases

Electrical panels in dusty industrial environments

Outdoor installations exposed to rain and moisture

Control systems in infrastructure and utility projects

Equipment enclosures in manufacturing
units

Installations where environmental protection is required

Frequently Asked Questions

Answers to help you select the right electrical enclosure for your application.

Selection depends on the actual installation environment. IP54-IP55 suits indoor general-purpose use, IP65-IP66 covers most outdoor conditions, and IP67-IP68 is specified where submersion or heavy water ingress is a factor.

IP65 suits most standard outdoor installations, offering full dust protection and resistance to water jets. Environments with heavy or directional water exposure may require IP66 or higher.

Each step up represents stricter dust and water protection. IP65 gives full dust protection and jet resistance, IP66 handles powerful jets, IP67 allows temporary submersion, and IP68 is rated for continuous or deeper submersion.

Yes. Dimensions, cable entry positions, gasket material, closure type, and internal layout can all be configured based on your panel and installation requirements.
